We are an Independent Country Hip Hop Soul Duo that smokes a lot of weed and makes funky songs
We started on Monday and finished on Friday. Austin-Browne is a couple of lifelong friends with a love for all kinds of music. Although the expectation is for guys like us to be in the trap and limited to Rap we had something free and funky we wanted to put on the map. This funky, country sounding hip hop is based on our love of Mary Jane so there’s a lil tree in every song we sang…but aint no auto-tuned vocals ’round here! No siree bob…Rick James and Willie Nelson ain’t use autotune and neither is Austin-Browne but we do have that Soul and that Funk baby!
Austin -Browne keeps it funky we make dope songs where everyone can sing along. You can even do a dance to every song. We hope y’all enjoy the expressive creativity we released in Pothead Country.
Austin-Browne’s frontman Gerald Austin is a native of Portsmouth Virginia who began his love of music at an early age by listening to the likes of bands like Frankie Beverly and Maze. His love for music grew like a weed and before long he was performing around town with a group of dope MCs and they landed themselves a record deal with a major label and ended up on a hit song with Salt-N-Pepa and EnVouge. Now along with Browne, he makes music that he considers just funky & country. As a child, Austin dreamt of being Gene Simmons of Kiss so he stretched his tongue 7 additional inches..ask him bout it ladies.
The beats in the background are made by Browne. Anthony “Tony” Brown is a native of Portsmouth Virginia and what you call a renaissance man. He plays drums, bass, a lil “geetar”, and some other stuff. He got his start in music playing trumpet in his High School marching band until somebody punched him in the mouth in a boxing ring and he had to switch to drums. Browne put out music in the mid-80s over in Italy and later became a music executive before managing a recording studio for Teddy Riley where he met a lot of stars but now he spends his time writing movies, books, and funky hip-hop country bars.
